Energy and Cost Savings with Occupancy Based Lighting Control in a Warehouse

Warehouse on average commands one of the highest potential in energy savings among buildings with occupancy based lighting controls. Research and surveys commissioned by CEC and US EPA predicted 50% to 75% of savings in lighting energy use with occupancy sensors.

Taking a conservative estimate of 50%, a warehouse with LED lamps installed as illustrated below brings about 292 MWh or $49,640 of savings a year.

Size of Warehouse :  40,000 sqm
Number of High Bay Lamps :  500
Energy Consumed per Lamp :  200 W
Average Operating Hour of Full Lighting :  16 Hour / Day
Energy Consumed per Year :  500 Lamps x 200 W x 16 h x 365 Days
  :  584 MWh
Energy Savings per Year :  292 MWh
Cost Savings per Year
(based on electricity rate of $0.17 / kWh)
:  $49,640
